10:00 am: 2019 Open Gardens Photo Show

Saturday 15 Feb 2020

You are all invited to come along to the Village Hall on Saturday, February 15th 10.00am – 12 noon for a PHOTOSHOW. Wal will very kindly be showing us the full set of his superb photos of the activities and scenes on May 26th last year – elegant compositions in St. Martin’s and in the ‘Open Gardens’, close-ups of individual plants, views along some shrub and flower borders and across The Green.

The photos will be projected on a big screen in a repeating loop, so come along at any time and stay as long as you like, without missing the start or the end! All is free. Coffee, tea and shortbread will be available.

Meta, Pam and Liz

ps To bring some spring colour into the parish a selection of the photographs from Preston Gardens Open and Flower Festival 2019 is now available to view in the Galleries.

Cpre - The Annual Star Count in Orion!

Friday 21 Feb 2020 Friday 28 Feb 2020

The Council for the Protection of Rural England are repeating their annual campaign, asking us all to count the numbers of stars which we can see in the Orion constellation, and then to send in our results. From this data, a national map of ‘dark skies’ and levels of light pollution can then be drawn. See their website at www.cpre.org.uk for details on how to register and sign up for ‘Star Count 2020’. Anyone can take part – it is all free! Just have a go and become a ‘Citizen Scientist’!

Without street lights, this village and parish provides a narrow zone of slightly darker sky between the glow of lights from the urban areas of Luton, Hitchin and Stevenage. The Preston Trust is a member of the Hertfordshire branch of the CPRE.

Saturday 14 Mar 2020

The Preston Trust committee would, once again, like to invite you to come and help pick up litter around the village and the parish.

Wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and bring your gardening/DIY gloves. Our helpful colleagues at NHDC/Urbaser will provide us with HiVis jackets, ‘litter-picker’ tools, black plastic sacks and disposable gloves. As usual, we will work in pairs along each lane and footpath, and bring the filled sacks back to The Green.

Just come along and lend a hand, please! This task does not take too long, nor require too much effort, and it really does make a difference! You are all very welcome!

Evening: Posh vs Plonk Wine Evening POSTPONED

Evening
Friday 20 Mar 2020

The 'Posh v Plonk' Wine Evening is postponed

Due to concerns about the Coronavirus, The Preston Trust committee has decided that it would be prudent to postpone the Wine Evening that was to have been held on Friday the 20th March.

After an initial (and encouraging) burst of bookings the take up dropped off and several of you who came last year said you would love to take part, but not in the current circumstances. We apologise for disappointing those of you who had already booked, but feel it is a sensible precaution to postpone due to the number of people in very social close confines with buffet style nibbles.

Considerable planning has gone in to the evening so we promise that will not be wasted and it is only postponed.

Sunday 29 Mar 2020

We are all very sad that St Martin’s is closed until further notice because of the Coronavirus.  It means no services in or from the church.

However for the first time, this Sunday 29 March, at 10.30 we will be streaming a service of Holy Communion via You Tube from The Vicarage in Whitwell.  At any rate, that is my hope, but you never quite know with the internet or my computer skills!

Access to the broadcast will be via the A Church near you St Paul’s Walden website.

I hope you will want to tune in and follow it with us.

Meanwhile there is a pew sheet for this Sunday which can be accessed via this link

With my very best wishes in these tough times.

2:00 pm: The Great Easter Egg Hunt - POSTPONED

Saturday 4 Apr 2020

This was going to be on Saturday 4 April, 2.00pm – 4.00pm
Postponed - Please Read Below

Dear Children, Parents and Guardians,

Due to the developments in the Coronavirus situation the Easter Egg Hunt is being postponed. The Easter Eggs’ best by dates are next year. We will still be able to have a great fun filled afternoon – just not on the original day.

Please let us know if you are interested. Having your booking (which does not commit you to the day) will give us your contact details so we can keep you updated. It also helps us buy enough eggs, while they are available, including anything needed to cater for any allergies or intolerances. Payment of £2 per child will be on the day.

If you don’t want to book now, you can still book when the new date is announced.

Follow a short trail through the village to where the Easter Eggs are waiting, with things to do along the way… Will there be Easter Chicks to play among or bunny paw prints to hop along?

With different questions to answer, challenges to try and new games to play, come along and enjoy this fun filled afternoon! A great time to share with all the family.

To book, or ask questions, please use our Event Contact Form

We look forward to welcoming you – Rae, Preston Trust committee member
